Alexandre Flory Samartino

Background/Story:

I grew up in Geneva, with French and Spanish as my native languages. I pursued mechanical engineering at EPFL, where my interest in entrepreneurship deepened during my studies. I completed my master’s thesis in logistics at Migros while also attending CTI entrepreneurship classes funded by the Swiss Confederation. After our startup won an award, I dedicated a year to launching it. The journey was more challenging than anticipated, but it provided invaluable lessons.

From this experience, I set two key goals: to study finance and learn German. I relocated to Zurich in 2016 and entered the banking sector, where I gradually became fascinated by cryptocurrencies.

My passion eventually led me to leave my banking job and fully immerse myself in the world of cryptocurrencies, and I fell down the rabbit hole. I later worked as a Blockchain Researcher and Generalist, where I crafted high-quality articles that demystified complex blockchain concepts. To deepen my technical expertise, I completed a 12- week full-stack coding bootcamp, which paved the way for my involvement in an interoperability blockchain project, namely Polkadot.

Throughout my crypto journey, one truth became increasingly clear: Bitcoin is not just the origin of this technological revolution but its ultimate destination. My journey has come full circle, leading me to realize that Bitcoin stands alone as a groundbreaking innovation with the potential to reshape our financial systems and empower individuals on a global scale. My passion for Bitcoin runs deep, driven by the belief that it represents the most profound shift in financial sovereignty and economic freedom that the world has ever seen.

Education:

I am very curious and love to learn. I hold two master’s degrees: an MSc. in Mechanical Engineering from EPFL and an MSc. in Blockchain and Digital Currencies from the University of Nicosia. I complemented my studies by passing numerous postgraduate professional certifications (e.g. PMP, CFA, a 12 weeks full-stack coding bootcamp, CAS in Blockchain from UZH, etc.).

Vision:

I firmly believe that money should be separated from the state and independent of government control. As Hayek foresaw, achieving this requires a clever and indirect approach. Bitcoin is the perfect solution to this issue. While Bitcoin's accomplishments in such a short time are astonishing, I believe there is still much work to be done, with many challenges that could potentially disrupt its progress. Therefore, I want to play a more active role in this ecosystem and help it thrive in Switzerland.

Goal by joining the BAS:

My aspiration is for the BAS to evolve into a Bitcoin-only association, aligning fully with its name. I am seeking to join the BAS board to achieve two key objectives. Firstly, I want to establish the BAS as the premier reference point for all Bitcoin-related matters in Switzerland, whether from private individuals, businesses, or government agencies. It should also play a pivotal role in fostering the development and growth of Switzerland's Bitcoin community. Secondly, I’m committed to cultivating and expanding the Swiss-French community through a series of courses, seminars, and events. Drawing on my extensive DevRel experience and strong regional connections, I am wellpositioned to lead this effort I fully support the Orange Vision for the BAS. If elected, I will use this vision to guide my decisions, making choices that reflect our shared values.
